'Sisters at Heart'
WEPASA Women's Getaway 2008

The women of the Western Pennsylvania (WEPASA) Division celebrated as “Sisters at Heart” for their annual Women’s Getaway in June. The guests included the Burke sisters: Commissioner Nancy A. Moretz, Major Joan Bode, and Western Pennsylvania’s own Major Barbara George. They kicked off the weekend with a musical revue spiced with humorous memories of growing up together.

A highlight of the getaway was the Garbage Bag Gala. Modeled after an annual fund–raising event to support the WEPASA’s Family Caring Center, this fashion show featured clothing made completely out of garbage bags. Garments included wedding gowns, a tuxedo, a flapper dress, elegant evening gowns, Salvation Army uniforms, and the grand prize winner, a young lady dressed like Dorothy of Oz.

After Saturday morning worship, awards were given for the division’s Win One Woman Campaign. Commissioner Nancy enrolled 48 new Women’s Ministry members. With those enrolled at corps, the campaign has drawn 118 new members.

Later, women learned about human trafficking and met in corps groups to pray about the problem and discuss what can be done about it.

Saturday evening was filled with laughter as women enjoyed a humorous, poignant production of “And Sarah Laughed,” featuring Carol Jaudes, accompanied by Karen Krinjak.

Following a powerful message by Commissioner Nancy Moretz on Sunday morning, dozens of women lined the mercy seat seeking a touch from God on their lives.
