Kids 'rock' at OOB

While their parents attended the Old Orchard Beach Camp Meetings in the Pavilion, about 60 kids ages 6–10 were “rocking” in the nearby tabernacle.

The theme was ‘Rock What You Got,’ and a banner for each day outlined the focus: ‘Rock Your Words,’ ‘Rock Your Will,’ ‘Rock Your World,’ ‘Rock Your Wealth,’ and ‘Rock Your Worship.’

Captains Keith and Pamela Maynor from the Wellsville, N.Y., Corps led the group. Pam said she realized that many of the kids attending would be already ‘churched,’ and she wanted to broaden their faith.

‘We were thinking of what we could do to challenge them to go deeper in their relationship with the Lord,’ she said. ‘That’s how this idea, this theme, was birthed.’

For example, during ‘Rock Your Wealth,’ the focus was on tithing.

‘We’re just challenging them to tithe,’ Pamela Maynor said. ‘If they can get that right now, with their $5 pocket money, it’s going to impact them for the rest of their lives.’

The ‘Rock Your Words’ lesson was about how to speak to people with respect and how a wise man holds his words (Proverbs 10:19).

The banner for ‘Rock Your Will’ showed a single arrow pointing in the opposite direction of several others that represented ungodly influences. The single arrow was God’s direction.

‘We taught them to choose God no matter what,’ Pamela Maynor said.

The assignment for ‘Rock Your World’ was to send a postcard from OOB or Maine to a friend telling them what they had learned during the week about God.
